Aran Wool

Aran Wool is the midway between DK and Chunky, providing a fast growing, medium weight alternative. Perfect for knitting thicker jumpers or cardigans without being too bulky and for warm Autumn & Winter accessories such as oversized scarves and snuggly hats, mitts & cowls.

Traditional woollen Aran wools often have multiple plies (sometimes as many as six or eight strands) which creates a really round yarn making it extremely popular for its ability to produce fantastic stitch definition for cables, moss stitch and other textured pattern effects.

A prime choice for Men’s garments and accessories, Aran wool can create stylish and flattering knits. Amongst crochet lovers this weight of yarn is preferred for creating Afghans and throws with a Swedish Hygge vibe.

It is recommended that Aran wool be knitted or crocheted on US 8 needles and hooks, of which you’ll find a superb range of in our collection of knitting needles and hooks. Aran, Aran or Aran?

Aran is a term with multiple meanings and a rich history: it can refer to a particular style of sweater, cable stitch patterns, a natural cream color…and in this case a thickness of yarn (influenced by the style of Fisherman’s sweater).
