Keep snuggly with this free button mug cozy crochet pattern this winter: and try out a new yarn in the process!
When it comes to surviving the icy onslaught of January, I turn to knitting, crochet, music, and art. This is the time of year that I love working with bright colors and patterns to beat back the winter blues! This year, I got a chance to have a squish of the recent addition to the Debbie Bliss family: Baby Cashmerino Tonals!
It's super soft, machine washable, and has a gentle tonal effect that I can't get enough of. I knew that I had to make something that I'd use on a daily basis to really enjoy that lively green shade!
Materials:
One ball of Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino Tonals in any shade
One yarn needle
Buttons
Free mug cozy crochet pattern
Chain 19.
DC into second chain from the hook and DC into every stitch across. Chain 1, turn.
Continue doing rows of DC until the rectangle is 5cm from wrapping all the way around.
Slip stitch into the first 6 stitches, DC into the next 6 stitches, slip stitch into the next 6. Turn.
Slip stitch into the first 6 stitches, DC into the next 6 stitches. Chain 6 and turn, leaving the last 6 stitches unworked.
Slip stitch into the first DC from the previous row (this creates the button loop). Turn.
Slip stitch into each of the 6 chains from the previous round, and bind off.
Sew one button to secure the mug cozy, making sure that the button loop will reach it! Then using scrap yarn or thread, sew on buttons as decoration. Raid those button boxes, I know you have them!
And that's all there is to it! There's enough yarn to crochet a whole set, or you can keep it around to crochet a last minute housewarming gift. I know I tend to forget about those until the night before and all the shops are shut!
