Circular Knitting Needles

Circular knitting needles are two straight needles joined by a flexible cable. They are fantastic for any round knitting project like socks, hats or sleeves. Circular needles are available on fixed cords or with interchangeable tips. Addi has a patented connection Addi-click.

Circular needles come in a variety of length cables and different size diameter needle tips so make sure you choose the right one! See our needle conversion chart, if you‘re unsure as we have a wide selection of knitting needles to choose from. As well as sizes, the tips are also available in different materials such as bamboo or metal. Bamboo and Olivewood have a better grip so they are ideal for beginners, whereas metal is heavier and stronger and comes with a standard basic point or sharper lace point.

They are available in a range of materials and size options, just select a product to find out more.

Why Use Circular Knitting Needles?

Generally great for any round projects, circular knitting needles are also useful for heavy projects to take the weight of the knitting off the needles as well as projects where each row has a large number of stitches. Knitting needles are a great investment and can last a long time. The most important thing is to make sure you have the right size and length.

What size circular knitting needles do I need?

In most cases, if you are following a pattern this should guide you in your choice, or you can ask yourself a series of questions:

To choose diameter, ask yourself: “how thick would I like the stitching?”

    • The thickness of the needle determines size of the stitch so the thicker the needle, larger the stitch and more elastic and loose the resulting fabric. A smaller diameter needle gives a thicker, tighter stitch.

To decide length of the needle, ask: “how big is the project I’m knitting?”

    • Although stitches can be squeezed onto any length needle, for ease, a larger project requires a longer needle. Likewise, a small circular project will require a shorter needle. Another factor is the yarn as thicker ones will need a longer needle to fit enough stitches on.
