How to read a yarn label

Have you ever looked at a yarn label and wondered why it felt like reading a foreign language? Our tutorial explains the deep, dark mysteries of a yarn label.

When searching for the yarn for a project, sometimes it can get confusing. What's more important, the weight and meterage, or the tension? What about the fibre content, and what's a dye lot? In this video tutorial (with subtitles), we're going to talk about all of those things and then some.

When substituting yarn for a project, all of the aforementioned qualities are important, but sometimes it's difficult to find that information on the label of a ball or skein of yarn. And that confusion only multiplies when you consider the differing systems that occur around the world, with regards to yarn weight, plies, and needle or hook sizes.

We certainly hope that helped!
Now, if you found some mystery yarn in your stash that doesn't even have a label, never fear: we have a blog post and a tutorial for that, too. (And it's easy!) Click here to learn how to figure out yarn weight.
