Helpful Hints for New Knitters

 

This is the first in our occasional series of helpful hints and tips for knitters. Starting with some of our favorite websites and online tutorials that beginners might find helpful.

So, you've chosen a pattern, bought your yarn and cast on your first project. Congratulations, you've started your knitting journey. But what do you do if you get stuck or come across a technique you don't understand? The internet is a wonderful resource for knitters, packed with helpful videos and tutorials. Here are our top three sources of great advice and inspiration for knitters.

KnitRowan: Probably one of the best know yarn companies in the UK, the Rowan website is a fabulous resource for patterns and advice about their yarn. But you'll also find a wealth of helpful knitting advice. You'll need to create a username and password to access the site first. Search for Tutorials and you'll discover short videos to guide you through, such as this helpful video explaining the knit stitch.

Joeli Creates: Joeli's friendly and approachable style has won her lots of fans. Her short video tutorials explain the key points of each technique. her cable cast on video is very helpful.

Clare Devine: Clare has pulbished several books and worked on collaborations with yarn companies and designers. Ever wondered how to do a long tail cast on, her video might just help you.

Even the most experienced knitter will you, there's always something new to learn, whether it's a new lace stitch, a complicated cable or just a neater way to cast off.
